weak, while his father is deemed acceptable by al-Hafiz—that is, when corroborated. This is why al-Tirmidhi did not grade its chain of transmission as good, but rather its text; for he said after it: “A good hadith.” It is as he said, or even stronger, for it has many supporting reports, which al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir cited in his Exegesis (3/55–58). I shall mention one of them shortly.
Ibn ʿAdi (136/1) narrated from Rushdin ibn Kurayb, from his father, from Ibn ʿAbbas concerning the words, “a Praiseworthy Station,” that he said: “The Praiseworthy Station is intercession.” He also said: “Rushdin’s hadiths are fairly sound; I have not seen among them any hadith that is seriously rejected. Despite his weakness, he is one of those whose hadiths may be recorded.”
- “The people will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection, and I and my community will be upon an elevated place. My Lord will clothe me in a green robe; then I will be granted permission, and I will say whatever Allah wills me to say. That is the Praiseworthy Station.”
Ibn Hibban (6445, al-Ihsan), al-Hakim (2/363), and Ahmad (3/456) narrated it through Muhammad ibn Harb, who said: al-Zubaydi narrated to me, from al-Zuhri, from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn ʿAbdullah ibn Kaʿb ibn Malik, from Kaʿb ibn Malik, attributed to the Prophet.
Al-Hakim said: “Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs.” Al-Dhahabi agreed with him, and it is as they said. Baqiyyah ibn al-Walid also corroborated him, saying: “Al-Zubayri narrated to us likewise.” Al-Tahawi narrated it in The Problematic Hadith Reports (1/449), as did Ibn Abi ʿAsim in al-Sunnah (785, edited by me).
