Dhakwān. Abu Nuʿaym transmitted it (7/174) with an authentic chain of transmission. He then transmitted it (9/254) by way of al-Haytham ibn Jammāz, from Abu Dawud, from Zayd ibn Arqam, attributing it to the Prophet with the wording cited in the heading, together with the addition. This chain of transmission is very weak. Al-Bazzār also transmitted it (p. 3 of his Zawāʾid) by way of ʿAṭiyyah, from Abu Saʿid, attributing it to the Prophet with the same wording. I say: All its narrators are trustworthy except ʿAṭiyyah, for he is weak and practised tadlīs, as al-Hafiz stated after the hadith in al-Zawāʾid. Al-Hakim also transmitted it (4/251).
2356 — “Whoever unlawfully kills a person under covenant will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, although the fragrance of Paradise can be perceived from a distance of one hundred years’ travel.”
Al-Diyaʾ transmitted it in Sifat al-Jannah (3/86/2) through two chains from ʿIsa ibn Yunus, from ʿAwf al-Aʿrabi, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah, attributing it to the Prophet. He said, “Its chain of transmission, in my view, meets the criteria of the Sahih.” I say: It is as he said. The hadith has also been reported from Abu Bakrah, and I have cited it in al-Taʿliq al-Raghib (3/204–205). In one narration from him, it reads: “seventy years.” Its chain of transmission is authentic.
