had once been discussing charity with ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab. ʿUmar said, “Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he mentioned misappropriation of charity, saying: ‘Whoever misappropriates any of it …’?” ʿAbd Allah ibn Unays replied, “Indeed.”
I say: This chain of transmission is weak. This Ibn al-Habbab is known only through this report, and no one besides Ibn Hibban declared him reliable. However, the hadith is authentic, for it has a detailed corroborating report from Abu Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet. It was transmitted by al-Bukhari and Muslim, as well as others. It may be found in al-Targhib (2/187).
2355 — “Whoever says, ‘There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah’ (sincerely) will enter Paradise.”
Ibn Hibban transmitted it (7) through Muḥarrir ibn Quʿnub al-Bahili, who said: Ribah ibn ʿUbaydah narrated to us, from Dhakwan al-Samman, from Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah, attributing it to the Prophet with this wording but without the addition; and it includes a story.
I say: Its chain is authentic. Muḥarrir is spelled with two undotted r’s. In the original, it appears as Muḥriz—with an undotted r followed by a dotted z—which is a scribal corruption. Abu Zurʿah declared him reliable, and Ahmad said, “There is no harm in him.”
Ibn Hibban (4), Ahmad (5/236), and Abu Nuʿaym (7/312) also transmitted it by way of Sufyan ibn ʿUyaynah, from ʿAmr ibn Dinar, from Jabir: “When death approached Muʿadh, he said, ‘Draw back the curtain of the tent from me. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever testifies, sincerely from his heart, that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah will enter Paradise.’” Ahmad’s chain contains only three narrators between him and the Prophet, and it is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim.
Ṣadaqah ibn Yasar also narrated it from Anas, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to Muʿadh ibn Jabal—then cited it with wording similar to that of
