al-ʿAlīl concerning Divine Decree, Predestination, Wisdom, and Causality (Shifā’ al-ʿAlīl fī al-Qaḍā’ wa’l-Qadar wa’l-Ḥikmah wa’l-Taʿlīl) by Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him.
His words, “while you were still in the loins of Adam.”
Al-Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ said:
“He is alluding to the Almighty’s statement, ‘And [remember] when your Lord took from the children of Adam, from their backs, their progeny…’ (Q 7:172). This covenant was taken from them while they were in the loins of Adam. Whoever fulfills it after coming into this world is a believer, and whoever fails to fulfill it is a disbeliever. Thus the meaning of the ḥadīth is: ‘I desired of you when I took the covenant, but once I brought you forth into the world you refused anything but shirk (associationism).’” He mentioned this in Fatḥ al-Bārī.
173 – “No woman harms her husband in this world without his wife from among the hūr al-ʿīn (maidens of Paradise) saying, ‘Do not harm him—may Allah fight you! He is only a guest with you; before long he will part from you and come to us.’”
It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2/208, with Tuhfat al-Aḥwadhī), Ibn Mājah (6/641), Aḥmad (5/242), Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Qaṭṭān in “His Ḥadīth from al-Ḥasan ibn ʿArafah” (fol. 145/1), al-Haytham ibn Kulayb in his Musnad (167/1), Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Aṣamm in “Majlisayn min al-Amālī” (fol. 3/1), and Abū Nuʿaym in Ṣifat al-Jannah (14/2), through the chains of Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh, from Buḥayr ibn Saʿd, from Khālid ibn Maʿdān, from Kathīr ibn Murrah al-Ḥaḍramī, from Muʿādh ibn Jabal, from the Prophet ﷺ.
