“Truthful, but he makes mistakes.” Al-Tustarī was among the shaykhs of al-Bazzār and other hadith masters. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in The Reliable Narrators (9/140), through the narration of the hadith master Aḥmad ibn Yaḥyā ibn Zuhayr al-Tustarī from him.
- “Whoever shoots at us by night is not of us.”
It has two chains of transmission. The first is from Abū Hurayrah. Aḥmad (2/321), al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad (1279), and Ibn Ḥibbān (1857) transmitted it from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Sulaymān, from Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from him, attributing it to the Prophet. Al-Bukhārī said: “There is something to be considered in its chain of transmission.” I say: This is due to the weakness of this Yaḥyā, but it is strengthened by what follows.
The other is from Ibn ʿAbbās. Al-Ṭabarānī (3/126/2) transmitted it from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad, from Thawr ibn Zayd, from ʿIkrimah, from Ibn ʿAbbās, attributing it to the Prophet. I say: This is an authentic chain; all its narrators are trustworthy.
- “Whoever reviles my Companions, upon him be the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people.”
Al-Ṭabarānī (3/174/1) transmitted it from al-Ḥasan ibn Qazʿah, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khirāsh, from al-ʿAwwām ibn Ḥawshab, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Hudhayl, from Ibn ʿAbbās, attributing it to the Prophet.
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission. Regarding ʿAbd Allāh ibn Khirāsh, al-Ḥāfiẓ said: “Weak; and Ibn ʿAmmār accused him of lying.”
