“Its chain of transmission is authentic!” Al-Dhahabī concurred with him.
I say: There is no surprise in al-Ḥākim’s assessment, for his leniency is well known. What is surprising is that al-Dhahabī followed him in this and overlooked his own statement in al-Mughnī: “Yazīd ibn Sinān, Abū Farwah al-Rahāwī, is well known; Aḥmad and Ibn al-Madīnī declared him weak.”
Nevertheless, the hadith has a sound supporting narration, transmitted by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl, from al-Ṭufayl ibn Ubayy ibn Kaʿb, from his father, attributed to the Prophet, with the same wording. It adds: “The first blast has come, followed by the second; death has come with all that it entails.” Al-Ḥākim (4/308) and Abū Nuʿaym in al-Ḥilyah (8/377) recorded it in full, while Aḥmad (5/136) recorded only the addition. Al-Tirmidhī (2459) likewise recorded it and said: “A good, authentic hadith.” I say that it is only good, owing to the well-known disagreement concerning Ibn ʿAqīl. In sum, the hadith is authentic on account of this supporting narration.
2336 — “Whomever Allah created for one of the two abodes, He prepares him for its deeds. The confirmation of this is in the Book of Allah: ‘By the soul and He who proportioned it, then inspired it with its wickedness and its righteousness.’” (1)
Aḥmad (4/438) recorded it: Ṣafwān ibn ʿĪsā narrated to us; ʿAzrah ibn Thābit informed us, from Yaḥyā ibn ʿAqīl, from Ibn Yaʿmur, from Abū al-Aswad al-Duʾalī, who said:
