ʿUmar, from him—he said: I know it only as being traced back to the Prophet: “Allah, the Exalted, says: ‘Whoever humbles himself before Me thus, I raise him thus.’” Yazīd ibn Hārūn placed the palm of his hand facing the ground and lowered it toward the ground; then, at the words, “I raise him thus,” he placed the palm of his hand toward the sky and raised it heavenward.
Aḥmad recorded it (1/44) with an authentic chain of transmission, and al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī recorded it in al-Mukhtārah (nos. 199–201, edited by me), through Aḥmad’s route as well as another route.
2329 — “Whoever takes allegiance to patrons other than his own has cast off the bond of faith from his neck.”
Recorded by Aḥmad (3/332) and al-Bukhārī in al-Tārīkh (2/1/143), through Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad ibn Ṭalḥā, who said: Khālid ibn Abī Ḥayyān narrated to us from Jābir, traced back to the Prophet.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of Muslim, apart from Khālid ibn Abī Ḥayyān. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (1/2/324): “Abū Zurʿah was asked about him and said: ‘A Medinan, trustworthy.’” Ibn Ḥibbān also mentioned him in al-Thiqāt (1/56, Hind edition).
2330 — “Whoever associates with a polytheist and resides with him is like him.”
Recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2787), through Sulaymān ibn Mūsā Abū Dāwūd, who said: Jaʿfar ibn Saʿd ibn Samurah ibn Jundub narrated to us; Khubayb ibn Sulaymān narrated to me from his father, Sulaymān ibn Samurah, from Samurah ibn Jundub, traced back to the Prophet. This is a weak chain of transmission. Regarding Sulaymān ibn Samurah, al-Ḥāfiẓ said:
