from Ibn Shihab, through this chain, limiting himself to the text of the hadith alone; he did not mention Ibn Ziyad in it. The hadith has another route from Ibn ʿAbbas, through which it is better known: ʿAli ibn Zayd ibn Judʿan narrates it from ʿUmar ibn Harmalah, from him, through this chain. It was recorded by Abu Dawud (2/135), al-Tirmidhi (3451), Ibn al-Sunni (468), Ahmad (1/284), and Ibn Saʿd (1/397). Al-Tirmidhi said, “A good hadith.” I say: It is as he said when the two routes are considered together; otherwise, Ibn Judʿan had poor retention. And Allah knows best.
2321 — “Whoever takes a ritual bath on Friday will remain in a state of ritual purity until the following Friday.”
Ibn Khuzaymah (176), Ibn Hibban (561), al-Hakim (1/282), and al-Tabarani in al-Awsat (50/2 in its arrangement) narrated it from Harun ibn Muslim al-ʿIjli al-Basri, who said: Aban ibn Yazid narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Qatadah, who said: My father came in to see me while I was taking a ritual bath on Friday. He asked, “Is this bath of yours due to major ritual impurity, or for Friday?” I replied, “Due to major ritual impurity.” He said, “Repeat the bath once more, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say,” and then he mentioned it.
Al-Tabarani said: “No one narrated it from Yahya except Aban, and no one narrated it from Aban except Harun.” I say: He is truthful, as al-Hafiz stated in al-Taqrib. Those above him in the chain are trustworthy narrators used by both al-Bukhari and Muslim. Al-Hakim said: “Authentic according to the criteria of both al-Bukhari and Muslim. Harun ibn Muslim al-ʿIjli, known as al-Hanna'i,”
