“Ahmad and al-Bazzār narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy.”
I say: Ibn Naṣr also narrated it in al-Ṣalāh (101/1) through the route mentioned above, as did al-Ḥākim (1/4 and 4/168), who said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī concurred with him. Yazīd ibn Hārūn differed from the routes indicated above, saying: Shuʿbah narrated to us from Ashʿath ibn Abī al-Shaʿthāʾ, from ʿAmr ibn Maymūn, who said something similar. Al-Bazzār also narrated it and said: “We know of no one who narrated it from Shuʿbah, from Ashʿath, in this manner except Yazīd; no one corroborated him in it. The correct version is the hadith of Abū Balj, from ʿAmr, from Abū Hurayrah.”
Note: Al-Manāwī cited al-ʿIrāqī as saying in his Amālī: “It is an authentic hadith, independently of al-Ḥākim’s route!”
2301—“Whoever wishes to recite the Quran in its pristine form, as it was revealed, should recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm ʿAbd.”
Ibn Mājah (138) and Aḥmad (1/7, 445, 454) narrated it through the route of ʿĀṣim ibn Abī al-Najūd, from Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh, from Ibn Masʿūd, who said: “The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered the mosque between Abū Bakr and ʿUmar. Ibn Masʿūd was praying and reciting Surat al-Nisāʾ. When he reached the one-hundredth verse, Ibn Masʿūd began supplicating while standing in prayer. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: ‘Ask, and you will be given; ask, and you will be given.’ Then he said the foregoing.
“When morning came, Abū Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, went to him to give him glad tidings and asked him, ‘What did you ask Allah for last night?’ He replied, ‘O Allah, I ask You for faith that does not lapse, bliss that does not end, and the companionship of Muhammad in the highest Garden of Eternity.’ Then ʿUmar, may Allah be pleased with him, came, and he was told, ‘Abū Bakr has preceded you!’ He said, ‘May Allah have mercy on Abū Bakr. I have never preceded him in any good…’
