2271 — “There is no camel but that a devil sits upon its hump. So mention Allah’s Name when you mount them, as He has commanded you; then put them to your own service, for it is Allah who carries.”
It was recorded by Ibn Khuzaymah (2/241, 2/255), al-Ḥākim (1/444), and, through him, al-Bayhaqī (5/252); Aḥmad (4/221); Ibn Maʿīn in al-Tārīkh wa-al-ʿIlal (2/9); al-Ḥarbī in Gharīb al-Ḥadīth (1/49/5); Ibn Saʿd in al-Ṭabaqāt (4/297); and al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr (22/334/837 and 838), from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, from ʿUmar ibn al-Ḥakam ibn Thawbān, from Abū Lās al-Khuzāʿī (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) assigned us some camels from the charity-camels as mounts for the pilgrimage, but they were weak. So we said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, do you think these will carry us?’ He replied,” and he then mentioned it.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission; its narrators are trustworthy. Although Ibn Isḥāq related it with an unqualified ‘from,’ he explicitly stated that he had heard it in al-Ḥarbī’s narration, as did Aḥmad in one of his two versions. Thus, the hadith is established, and all praise is due to Allah.
For this reason, al-Haythamī said (10/131): “It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī through several chains of transmission. The narrators of one of them are the narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ, and in one of them he explicitly stated that he had heard it.” Al-Ḥākim declared it authentic, and al-Dhahabī concurred! He also has two corroborating reports for it: one from the hadith of Abū Hurayrah and another from the hadith of Ḥamzah ibn ʿAmr. He declared both authentic, and al-Dhahabī concurred. See its detailed documentation in Ibn Taymiyyah’s Treatise on Fasting (63).
2272 — “No man exalts himself inwardly and struts in his walk except that he will meet Allah while He is angry with him.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad (549), al-Ḥākim (1/60), and Aḥmad (2/118), from Yūnus ibn al-Qāsim al-Yamāmī, who reported that ʿIkrimah ibn Khālid ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ al-Makhzūmī—
