pearls, and around their necks will be a seal: “Allah’s freed ones.” It will be said to them: “Enter Paradise. Whatever you wish for or see is yours, and with Me is something better than this.”
They will say: “Our Lord, what could be better than that?” He will say: “My pleasure with you; I shall never again be angry with you.”
Imam Aḥmad recorded it in his Musnad (2/49): “ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us”—and it is also in his Muṣannaf (11/409/20857)—“he said: Maʿmar informed us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said…” and he then cited it.
Al-Nasāʾī (5010), Ibn Mājah (60), and Ibn Khuzaymah in al-Tawḥīd (184) also recorded it, all through ʿAbd al-Razzāq with this chain. However, in al-Nasāʾī’s version, the verse appears as: “Indeed, Allah does not forgive that partners should be associated with Him, but He forgives anything less than that for whomsoever He wills.” (1) This differs from the narration of the others. I do not know where the error occurred, but the first version is that of the group, whereas the other is irregular.
Supporting this is the fact that al-Bukhārī (7439) recorded the hadith at length, through Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl, and Muslim (1/114–117), through Ḥafṣ ibn Maysarah, both from Zayd ibn Aslam with the first verse.
2251 — “Ubay spoke the truth.”
Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (3/38/2), through Ibrāhīm, from Ibn Masʿūd: he asked Ubayy ibn Kaʿb—while the Prophet ﷺ was delivering a sermon—about a verse from the Book of Allah. Ubayy ignored him and did not answer him. When he had completed his prayer, he said: “You have not observed the Friday prayer properly.”
Ibn Masʿūd then asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said the above.
