we have been afflicted with in this age. For hijrah is only from lands of disbelief to lands of Islam. And Allah is the One whose help is sought.
2245 — “When you give the adhān for Maghrib, hasten to perform it as the sun sets.”
Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (7/210/6744) by way of Yaḥyā al-Ḥammānī, who said: Ibrāhīm ibn Abī Maḥdhūrah narrated to us from his father, from his grandfather, from Abū Maḥdhūrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to me—and he then mentioned it.
I say: This chain is weak. This Ibrāhīm is Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Abī Maḥdhūrah. He has some weakness, as al-Ḥāfiẓ indicated when he said in al-Taqrīb: “Truthful, but makes mistakes.” Al-Dhahabī left his entry blank in al-Kāshif, offering no judgment on him, following al-Bukhārī and Ibn Abī Ḥātim. However, the latter mentioned in al-ʿIlal (1/114), on his father’s authority: “A shaykh.” His father, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, and his grandfather, ʿAbd al-Malik, were deemed acceptable by al-Ḥāfiẓ. As for Yaḥyā—namely, Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd al-Ḥammānī—al-Ḥāfiẓ said: “A ḥāfiẓ, except that they accused him of stealing hadith.”
ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar ibn Abān contradicted him, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Abī Maḥdhūrah narrated to us. He said: I heard my father say, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The time for Maghrib: hasten it as the sun sets.”
