“Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs.” Al-Ḥākim said this, and al-Dhahabī concurred.
I say: ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Daylamī—who was Ibn Fayrūz—was not narrated from by either of the two Shaykhs; nor was ʿĀṣim ibn Ḥakīm, who occurs in the chain leading to him. Both men are trustworthy, so the chain is authentic, but no more than that. Khālid ibn Durayk also corroborated it, narrating from Yaʿlā ibn Umayyah with similar wording. Aḥmad transmitted it (4/223).
I say: Its chain is good, and its narrators are trustworthy. In Takhrīj al-Iḥyāʾ (4/310), al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī mentioned a corroborating report narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn from Abū—that is, Ibn Kaʿb—who said: “I engaged a man to go on campaign with me ...” The hadith is similar. Yet he made no comment on its chain, nor on the chain of Abū Dāwūd either!
2234 — “Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon those who join the rows.”
Ibn Wahb transmitted it in al-Jāmiʿ (58/2), from Usāmah ibn Zayd al-Laythī, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, the wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said the above.
I say: This is a good chain through Ibn Wahb’s narration from Usāmah. Al-Ḥākim also narrated it through this route and declared it authentic, and al-Dhahabī concurred. Sufyān al-Thawrī also corroborated Usāmah in narrating it. A group narrated it from Sufyān. However, Muʿāwiyah ibn Hishām differed from them in its wording, narrating it from Sufyān as: “... send blessings upon the right sides of the rows.” In this wording, it is not preserved, as al-Bayhaqī said, even though al-Mundhirī and others deemed it good, as I explained in Ḍaʿīf Abī Dāwūd (104).
