2215 — “No vein or eye twitches except because of a sin, and what Allah averts from him is greater.”
Al-Tabarānī narrated it in al-Muʿjam al-Ṣaghīr (no. 1053), and from him Abū Nuʿaym in Akhbār Iṣbahān (2/247), through Aḥmad ibn al-Furāt: Muḥammad ibn Kathīr narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn Fuḍayl narrated to us; from al-Ṣalt ibn Bahrām; from Abū Wāʾil; from al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib, attributed to the Prophet. Al-Tabarānī said: “Aḥmad was alone in narrating it.” I say: He was a trustworthy memorizer, and those above him in the chain are trustworthy narrators found in the collections of the two Shaykhs, apart from al-Ṣalt ibn Bahrām, who was trustworthy. In my view, Muḥammad ibn Kathīr was al-ʿAbdī. And Allah knows best.
Regarding this hadith, al-Haythamī said in Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (2/295): “Al-Tabarānī narrated it in al-Ṣaghīr, and its chain includes al-Ṣalt ibn Bahrām, who was trustworthy, though he was an adherent of Murjiʾism.”
I say: Al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī also narrated it in al-Aḥādīth al-Mukhtārah, as cited in the two compilations, al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr and al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr. Al-Manāwī graded its chain good in al-Taysīr.
2216 — “I do not fear poverty for you; rather, I fear that you will vie for abundance. And I do not fear mistakes for you; rather, I fear deliberate wrongdoing.”
Ibn Ḥibbān (2479), al-Ḥākim (2/534), and Aḥmad (2/308 and 539) narrated it through Jaʿfar ibn Burqān, who said: I heard Yazīd ibn al-Aṣamm, from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet. Al-Ḥākim said: “Authentic according to Muslim’s conditions.” Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said.
