“I would not like Mount Uhud to be gold in my possession, and for a third night to pass while I still had a dinar of it, except for something I had set aside for a creditor.”
Aḥmad (2/506) narrated it: Yazīd told us, Ibn Abī Dhiʾb informed us, from Abū al-Walīd, from Abū Hurayrah, attributing it to the Prophet with this wording. This is an authentic chain according to the standards of the six canonical hadith compilers. Abū al-Walīd’s name was ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith al-Baṣrī. Ibn Mājah (4132) also narrated it through Abū Suhayl ibn Mālik, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, with the wording: “Except for something I reserve for settling a debt.” Its chain is good.
2212 — “I would not like to greet a man while he is praying; were he to greet me, I would return his greeting.”
Attributed to the Companion. Al-Ṭaḥāwī narrated it in Sharḥ al-Maʿānī (1/264) by two chains from al-Aʿmash, who said: Abū Sufyān told me: I heard Jābir say it—mentioning it as a statement attributed to the Companion.
I say: This is a good chain according to Muslim’s criteria. It is attributed to the Companion, as you see. Al-Suyūṭī included it in the two Jāmiʿ collections, citing al-Ṭaḥāwī’s narration from Jābir, thus giving the impression that it was attributed to the Prophet. Al-Manāwī did not notice this and merely said: “The compiler has indicated that it is good!”
I say: I have included it here solely to draw attention to this; otherwise, this book of ours is devoted exclusively to hadiths attributed to the Prophet—
