It has another corroborating report from the hadith of Ibn ʿAbbās, which is recorded in al-Ḍaʿīfah (2108). I have found another chain from him with the wording: “and reveres our elders and recognizes the right due to our scholars.” Thus, it combines the two wordings. Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Kabīr (3/154–155), from Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, from al-Minhal ibn ʿAmr, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from him. Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd Allāh is most likely al-ʿArzamī, and he is abandoned.
A hadith from Abū Umāmah, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is similar to it in wording: “Whoever does not show mercy to our young and revere our elders is not one of us.” Al-Bukhārī recorded it in al-Adab (356), from al-Walīd ibn Jamīl, from al-Qāsim ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from him. This is a good chain of transmission. It has another corroborating report with this wording from the hadith of ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit, whose chain is likewise good, as I established in al-Targhīb (1/66).
2197 — “Why did these people not ask for well-being?!”
Al-Bazzār recorded it in his Musnad (3134—Kashf al-Astār): al-ʿAbbās ibn Jaʿfar al-Baghdādī narrated to us; Yazīd ibn Mihrān narrated to us; Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us, from Ḥumayd, from Anas, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by some afflicted people and said the above. He said: “We know of no one who narrated it from Ḥumayd other than Ibn ʿAyyāsh.” I say: He is trustworthy and among al-Bukhārī’s narrators.
