“his harm.” The meaning is the same—namely, his evil—as is explicitly explained in a version narrated by al-Ḥākim and Aḥmad (4/288 and 336), which al-Ḥākim authenticated as meeting the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and al-Dhahabī agreed with him.
2182 — “The prophets are paternal half-brothers: their mothers are different, but their religion is one. I am the nearest of all people to Jesus, son of Mary, for there was no prophet between him and me. He will descend, and when you see him, recognize him: a man of medium stature, with a fair, ruddy complexion, wearing two garments dyed with safflower; his head will appear to be dripping, though no wetness has touched it. He will fight the people for Islam, break the cross, kill the swine, abolish the poll tax, and Allah will destroy all religions in his time except Islam. Allah will destroy the false Messiah, the Dajjāl. Security will prevail on earth, until lions graze with camels, leopards with cattle, wolves with sheep, and children play with snakes without being harmed by them. He will remain on earth for forty years, then he will die, and the Muslims will perform the funeral prayer over him.”
It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (2/214), Ibn Ḥibbān in his Ṣaḥīḥ (6775 and 6782—al-Iḥsān), and Aḥmad (2/406)—the two additional passages are found in the latter two—through Hammām ibn Yaḥyā, from Qatādah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ādam, from Abū Hurayrah, in a report attributed to the Prophet. I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission, as al-Ḥāfiẓ stated in al-Fatḥ (6/384), and it meets Muslim’s criteria.
2183 — “Nothing is better than a thousand of its like except a human being.”
Tamām narrated it in al-Fawāʾid (153/2): My father related to us; Abū al-Qāsim Mūsā ibn Muḥammad ibn Maʿbad al-Mawṣilī related to me; ʿĪsā ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿAsqalānī related to us; al-Firyābī related to us, from al-Thawrī,
