2180 — “No one loves praise more than Allah, and no one is more accepting of excuses than Allah.”
Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Kabīr (1/42/2), through Mubārak ibn Fuḍālah, from al-Ḥasan, from al-Aswad ibn Sarīʿ, in a report attributed to the Prophet. I say: This chain of transmission is weak. However, it has an authentic corroborating report from al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed that Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah had said, “If I found her with a man, I would strike her with the sword’s edge.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Do you wonder at Saʿd’s protective jealousy? I have more protective jealousy than Saʿd, and Allah has more protective jealousy than I. For that reason, He has forbidden all indecencies, both open and hidden. No one has greater protective jealousy than Allah, and no one is more accepting of excuses than He; for that reason, He sent the prophets as bearers of glad tidings and warners. And no one loves praise more than Allah; for that reason, He promised Paradise.” Muslim (4/211) and al-Dārimī (2/149) narrated it.
2181 — “He is not a believer whose neighbor is not safe from his harm.”
Ibn Naṣr narrated it in al-Ṣalāh (141/2), as did al-Ḥākim (4/165), through Sinān ibn Saʿd al-Kindī, from Anas ibn Mālik, in a report attributed to the Prophet. I say: Al-Ḥākim and al-Dhahabī made no comment on it, and its chain of transmission is good. Its narrators are trustworthy narrators used by al-Bukhārī and Muslim, apart from this al-Kindī. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: “He is truthful, though he has unique reports.” It has corroborating reports in the two Ṣaḥīḥs and elsewhere, from Abū Hurayrah and others, with similar wording:
