2178 — “Through the intercession of a man who is not a prophet, as many people as two tribes—or as one of the two tribes—Rabīʿah and Muḍar, will surely enter Paradise.” A man said: “O Messenger of Allah, is not Rabīʿah part of Muḍar?” He replied: “I only say what I say.”
It was narrated by Ahmad (5/257 and 261) and Ibn ʿAsākir (11/105/1), from Ḥurayz ibn ʿUthmān, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Maysarah, from Abū Umāmah, who heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say this.
I say: This chain of transmission is good, as al-Suyūṭī said in al-Ḥāwī (2/16). Its narrators are trustworthy and are among al-Bukhārī’s narrators, apart from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Maysarah, the Ḥaḍramī of Homs. Ibn al-Madīnī said: “He is unknown; none but Ḥurayz narrated from him.” But Abū Dāwūd said: “All of Ḥurayz’s teachers are trustworthy.” Al-ʿIjlī said: “A Syrian Successor, trustworthy.”
I say: Ibn Ḥibbān included him in The Trustworthy Successors (5/109). It is corroborated by the hadith of Ḥammād ibn Salamah, from Yūnus, from al-Ḥasan, narrated with the same wording as a mursal report. ʿAbd Allāh narrated it in Zawāʾid al-Zuhd (p. 126) with an authentic chain to him.
It also has a supporting report from the hadith of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Jadʿāʾ, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī in al-Tārīkh (3/1/26), al-Tirmidhī (2/71), al-Dārimī (2/328), Ibn Mājah (4316), Ibn Khuzaymah in al-Tawḥīd (p. 203), Ibn Ḥibbān (2598), and Ibn ʿAsākir (3/106/2 and 11/105/2), with an authentic chain from him. Al-Tirmidhī said:
