from al-Dhahabī that he said: “This is rejected.” I say: However, it has been authentically transmitted with a connected chain through another route. ʿAbd al-Razzāq also narrated (19589), from Maʿmar, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ṣāliḥ, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with similar wording. He said: When ʿAlī learned of this, he called for water and drank while standing.
Al-Ṭaḥāwī also transmitted it through another route from ʿAbd al-Razzāq. He said in Mushkil al-Athar (3/18): Fahd ibn Sulaymān narrated to us: Salamah ibn Shabīb narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, from Maʿmar, with it. Salamah ibn Shabīb was a trustworthy shaykh of Muslim. Thus, the chain is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs. So do not be misled by al-Manāwī’s citation of the hadith, for it is deficient and gives the impression that it is defective, since he cited it only through Zuhayr’s connected route—which al-Dhahabī rejected—and through the first, interrupted route. He did not mention the first connected route found in ʿAbd al-Razzāq, and also transmitted by al-Bayhaqī.
The hadith has also been narrated from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with different wording, but it is defective. For this reason, I included it in al-Ḍaʿīfah (927), where I also mentioned a strong corroborating report for it from Abū Hurayrah. Refer to it there.
2176 — “Let one of you acquire a grateful heart, a tongue that remembers Allah, and a righteous wife who will assist him in the affair of the Hereafter.”
It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (3093), Ibn Mājah (1/571), Aḥmad (5/278 and 282), Abū Nuʿaym in al-Ḥilyah (1/182 and 182–183), and al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar in al-Aḥādīth al-ʿĀliyāt (no. 15), from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from Thawbān, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Tirmidhī said: “A good hadith.”
