“…that I do not pray until the sun has risen: we are a household known for that; we hardly awaken before the sun rises.” He said: “When you awaken, then pray.”
I say: This chain of transmission is authentic according to the criteria of both al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Al-Ḥāfiẓ deemed it strong in al-Fatḥ (8/371).
Abū Bakr also corroborated him from al-Aʿmash with the same report. Aḥmad narrated it (3/84–85). I say: Its chain of transmission is authentic according to al-Bukhārī’s criteria. The hadith has already appeared through Abū Dāwūd’s narration under hadith (395).
2173 — “If you were scooping from Buthān, you could not have added more.”
Al-Ḥākim (2/178) and Aḥmad (3/448) narrated it through authentic routes from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, who said: Abū Ḥadrad al-Aslamī narrated to us that he came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, seeking his assistance with a woman’s bridal gift. He asked: “How much did you stipulate for her bridal gift?” He replied: “Two hundred dirhams.” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then said … and he mentioned the above.
Al-Ḥākim said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic,” and al-Dhahabī agreed with him.
I say: It is as they said. Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh contradicted them, however, narrating from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd, from Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ḥadrad al-Aslamī, from his father, with the same report. Thus, he inserted ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ḥadrad into it. Al-Dūlābī narrated it in al-Kunā (1/25).
I say: This addition is rejected, since Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh alone narrated it, and he is weak in what he narrates from the people of the Hijaz; and this is one such report.
