and he enjoined upon me to frequently say: “There is no power and no strength except through Allah, for they are a treasure beneath the Throne.” In another narration: “For it is a treasure from among the treasures of Paradise.”
It was narrated by Imam Aḥmad (5/159)—the wording being his—as well as Ibn Ḥibbān in his Ṣaḥīḥ (2041), from whom the other wording is also reported; al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Ṣaghīr (p. 157, Hind edition); al-Kharāʾiṭī in Makārim al-Akhlāq (p. 25); al-Bayhaqī in al-Sunan (10/91); likewise Abū Nuʿaym in al-Ḥilyah (2/357); and al-Khaṭīb in al-Tārīkh (5/254), through several routes from Muḥammad ibn Wāsiʿ, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ṣāmit, from Abū Dharr, who said: He then mentioned it. I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission; all its narrators are trustworthy.
Badīl ibn Maysarah also corroborated him, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ṣāmit, with the same report but without the fourth injunction; this is Ibn Ḥibbān’s narration. Al-Bazzār narrated it (3309). It was also corroborated by ʿUmar, the client of Ghifra, from Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb, from Abū Dharr, with the same report but without the fourth and sixth injunctions. It was narrated by Aḥmad and his son ʿAbd Allāh (5/173). This ʿUmar is weak. Yet I was impressed—by Allah—by his statement following the hadith: “I do not know that anything remains among us of the five except this: our saying, ‘There is no power and no strength except through Allah.’”
2167 — “If you knew the extent of Allah’s mercy, you would rely upon it and do no deeds; and if you knew the extent of His wrath, nothing would avail you.”
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā narrated it in Ḥusn al-Ẓann (2/193/1), from Mūsā al-Aswārī, from ʿAṭiyyah, from Ibn ʿUmar, attributed to the Prophet.
