Ibn Abī Laylā also narrated it from Nāfiʿ, omitting the phrase, “and race them.” Aḥmad narrated it.
2134 — “He liked sweet, cool drinks.”
Abū Bakr al-Shāfiʿī narrated it in al-Fawāʾid (9/260): Muḥammad ibn Ghālib narrated to us; al-Ḥumaydī narrated to us—and in his Musnad (1/125/257): Sufyān narrated to us from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, in a report attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
He then narrated, through Ibn Ḥanbal: My father narrated to me; Sufyān narrated to us, with the wording: “The drink most beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was a cool drink.”
He further added (10/276), through the route of Muḥammad ibn Manṣūr al-Jawwāz al-Makkī: Sufyān narrated it to us with the wording, “sweet and cool.” I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission, meeting the criteria of the two Shaykhs, al-Bukhārī and Muslim. It is also found in al-Mishkāt (4282) with similar wording, including the addition, “sweet and cool.” This addition is found in Musnad Aḥmad (6/38 and 40), through the aforementioned chain: Sufyān narrated it to us.
Al-Tirmidhī considered this hadith defective on the grounds that it was transmitted with a missing link in its chain. The response to this will come when we cite the hadith again, with further documentation and verification, if Allah wills, under no. 3006.
2135 — “He liked good dreams.”
Aḥmad (3/135 and 257) narrated it from Sulaymān ibn al-Mughīrah, from Thābit, from Anas, in a report attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
