pumpkin in it. He said: “I saw that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) liked pumpkin.” Anas said: “I have continued to like pumpkin ever since I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) liking it.”
Aḥmad (3/208, 210–211, 232, 252, 270, and 289) and Ibn Saʿd (1/391) narrated it through various routes from him. This is an authentic chain of transmission according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs. The term ihālah refers to every kind of fat used as an accompaniment to food, though another view has also been expressed. Sanikha means that whose smell has changed.
2130 — “He would ride a donkey, mend his sandals, patch his shirt, and say: ‘Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me.’”
Abū al-Shaykh (p. 128) and al-Sahmī, in The History of Jurjān (315), narrated it through the route of Abū Yaʿlā, who said: Isḥāq ibn Abī Isrāʾīl narrated to us; Yaḥyā ibn Yaʿlā narrated to us, from Mukhtār al-Taymī, from Kurz ibn Wabarah al-Ḥārithī, from Abū Ayyūb, in a report attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
I say: This chain of transmission is weak. Mukhtār—namely, Mukhtār ibn Nāfiʿ al-Taymī—is weak, as is Yaḥyā ibn Yaʿlā, who was al-Aslamī al-Kūfī. However, it has a strong mursal supporting report. Ibn Saʿd (1/372) said: Muḥammad ibn Muqātil al-Khurāsānī informed us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak informed us; Sufyān informed us that al-Ḥasan said:
“When Allah sent Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), He said: ‘This is My Prophet; this is My chosen one. Take him as your example, and follow his Sunnah and his way. No doors were closed to keep people away from him, no chamberlains stood before him, and no large platters of food were brought to him morning or evening. He would sit on the ground and eat his food on the ground; he wore coarse garments, rode a donkey, gave another a ride behind him, and licked his fingers. He would say: “Whoever turns away from my Sunnah is not of me.”’”
I say: This is an authentic mursal chain of transmission. All of its narrators are trustworthy and among al-Bukhārī’s narrators.
