from my grandfather, from Musa ibn Talhah, from his father, in a report attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording, though it includes an account. Its wording is: “Whenever he was asked for anything, he would almost invariably do it.”

This chain of transmission is weak. Sulayman ibn Ayyub—Ayyub being the son of Sulayman ibn Musa ibn Talhah al-Taymi—was described by the hadith authority as: “Truthful, but prone to error.” As for his son, Ayyub ibn Sulayman, Ibn Abi Hatim set out his lineage (1/1/248), inserting Isa between his father Sulayman and his grandfather Musa. Thus, according to him, he was Ayyub ibn Sulayman ibn Isa ibn Musa ibn Talhah. He mentioned no one who narrated from him other than his son Sulayman. As for his father, Sulayman, I have not been able to find him.

2110 — “He would not pray the Maghrib (sunset) prayer while fasting until he had broken his fast, even if only with a sip of water.”

Ibn al-Arabi narrated it in his Mu'jam (222/2), saying: “I read it to Ali—meaning Ibn Dawud al-Qantari: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Aziz al-Ramli informed us; Shuayb ibn Ishaq informed us; Said ibn Abi Arubah informed us, from Qatadah, from Anas, in a report attributed to the Prophet.” Al-Tabarani also narrated it in al-Awsat (1/100/2), through another route from al-Ramli, and said: “No one narrated it from Qatadah except Said, and no one narrated it from him except Shuayb; Muhammad alone narrated it.”

I say: He was truthful but made mistakes, though he was knowledgeable. Al-Bukhari relied on him as an authority, and the rest of the narrators are trustworthy men whose narrations were accepted by both al-Bukhari and Muslim.
