a man or a woman, who said: he then cited it. I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission according to Muslim’s criteria.
- “The pillow on which he slept at night was made of tanned hide and stuffed with palm fibre.”
It was reported by Abu Dawud (no. 4146), al-Tirmidhi (1/326–327), in al-Shama’il (p. 188), Abu al-Shaykh in Akhlaq al-Nabi (p. 166), and Ahmad in his Musnad (6/48), through several routes from Hisham ibn Urwah, from his father, from her, with this wording. Al-Tirmidhi said: “A good, authentic hadith.” I say: It is authentic according to the criteria of both al-Bukhari and Muslim. Al-Bukhari also recorded it in abridged form (4/221), as did Ibn Majah (4151). It is likewise one of the narrations of Abu Dawud (4147), Abu al-Shaykh, and Ahmad (6/56, 73, 108, 207, 212).
- “No one ever saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, eating while reclining, nor did two men walk immediately behind him.”
It was reported by Abu Dawud (2/140), Ahmad (2/165 and 167), Ibn Sa‘d (1/380), and Abu al-Shaykh in Akhlaq al-Nabi (p. 213), from Hammad ibn Salamah, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Shu‘ayb ibn Abd Allah ibn Amr, from his father, who said: he then cited it. In one narration of Ahmad: “I never saw the Messenger of Allah...” I say: This is a good chain of transmission. Shu‘ayb’s grandfather here was Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-As, while his father was named Muhammad. For Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah narrated it: Thabit al-Bunani told us, from Shu‘ayb ibn Muhammad ibn
