Ishaq’s ambiguous “from” transmissions and his failure to distinguish them from those reports in which he explicitly stated that he heard them—a position contrary to that of the scholars. Nevertheless, the hadith is good when its two chains are taken together. And Allah knows best.
I then found another chain for the hadith from ʿAlī, in whose chain there is a weakness that I explained in the other book (4227), with the wording: “His horse was called … and his donkey was ʿUfayr …” Thus, it is authentic by virtue of it. And Allah knows best.
Ibn Saʿd then reported, through two authentic mursal chains: “The name of the Prophet’s donkey, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was Yaʿfūr.” And Allah knows best.
2099 — “He had a cloth with which he would dry himself after minor ablution.”
It has two chains. The first is from ʿĀʾishah: al-Tirmidhī (1/74), Ibn ʿAdī (154/1), al-Ḥākim (1/154), and al-Bayhaqī (1/185) reported it from Zayd ibn al-Ḥubāb, from Abū Muʿādh, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah, from her. Al-Baghawī said in Sharḥ al-Sunnah (1/37/2): “Its chain of transmission is weak.” Al-Ḥākim said: “This Abū Muʿādh is al-Fuḍayl ibn Maysarah, a Basran. Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated from him and commended him.”
