As for the hadith, al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (3/215): “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Awsaṭ, and its chain includes Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī al-Marwazī, concerning whom there is some criticism, though he has been declared trustworthy.” I say: This does not affect it, for he narrates it from Ibn Qahzādh, and others whom we have mentioned also corroborated him in narrating it. I have found al-Ṭabarānī’s chain of transmission in his Zawāʾid (1/113/1), and al-Ḍiyāʾ narrated it from him in al-Mukhtārah (folio 246/2).
2078 — “Whenever he circumambulated the House, he would touch—or, he said, receive—the Black Stone and the Corner during every circuit.”
It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (1/456), al-Bayhaqī (5/76), and Aḥmad (2/18), through several routes from ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Abī Rawwād, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Ḥākim said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It meets Muslim’s conditions.
2079 — “Whenever he became angry, his cheeks would turn red.”
It was narrated by Abū al-Shaykh in Akhlāq al-Nabī (p. 68) and al-Ṭabarānī (3/49/2), from Abū Yaḥyā al-Taymī, who said: Mukhāriq narrated to us; Ṭāriq ibn Shihāb narrated to us, saying: I heard Ibn Masʿūd say—and he mentioned it as attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. I say: Its narrators are trustworthy except for Abū Yaḥyā al-Taymī, whose name was Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm. After attributing it to al-Ṭabarānī, al-Haythamī said (8/278): “He is weak.”
