The third is from ʿAṭāʾ, likewise as a mursal report. ʿAbd al-Razzāq transmitted it as no. 5281, and ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq cited it from him in his al-Aḥkām (73/1). Its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of the two Shaykhs. Another point that supports and strengthens the hadith is the established practice of the caliphs in this regard. Ibn Abī Shaybah narrated from Abū Naḍrah, who said:

“ʿUthmān had grown old, and whenever he ascended the pulpit, he would offer greetings of peace and then remain for as long as it would take someone to recite the Opening Chapter of the Quran.”

Its chain of transmission is authentic. He then narrated from ʿAmr ibn Muhājir:

“Whenever ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz had taken his place upon the pulpit, he would offer greetings of peace to the people, and they would return his greeting.”

Its chain is likewise authentic.

The hadith also has another supporting report from Ibn ʿUmar, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the same wording, but containing an additional phrase. It was because of that addition that I included it in al-Ḍaʿīfah (4194), on the authority of al-Bayhaqī and Ibn ʿAsākir.

2077 — “After he performed the dawn prayer while travelling, he would walk a short distance away from his mount.”

It was transmitted by Abū ʿUthmān al-Nujayrimī (2/4/2), Abū Nuʿaym (8/180), al-Bayhaqī (5/255), and al-Ḍiyāʾ in al-Aḥādīth wa-al-Ḥikāyāt (14/151/2), through Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Qahzādh, who said: Abū al-Wazīr Muḥammad ibn Aʿyan narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh informed us, from Sulaymān ibn Bilāl, from Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī, from Anas ibn Mālik, attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.

Abū Nuʿaym said: “ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak alone transmitted it.” I say: He was a trustworthy imām and among the narrators of the two Shaykhs, as were those above him. The two narrators below him are also trustworthy; therefore, the chain of transmission is authentic.
