There he recorded it through his two shaykhs (2/51/5861 and 2/207/8194, according to my numbering), Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥaḍramī and Mūsā ibn Hārūn, both of whom narrated from Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir al-Ḥizāmī: Maʿn ibn ʿĪsā narrated to us; Saʿīd ibn Bashīr narrated to us from Qatādah, with this report. He said: “No one narrated it from Qatādah except Saʿīd ibn Bashīr, and no one narrated it from Saʿīd except Maʿn. Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mundhir was alone in narrating it.”
I say: He is trustworthy and among al-Bukhārī’s shaykhs. Likewise, those above him are trustworthy narrators used by the two Shaykhs, apart from Saʿīd ibn Bashīr, whose weakness is like that of Suwayd. Al-Dhahabī said in al-Kāshif: “Al-Bukhārī said: ‘They criticize his retention, though he is acceptable.’ Duḥaym said: ‘He was trustworthy; our shaykhs used to declare him trustworthy. He was a Qadarī.’” I say: Thus, the hadith is good, as stated above. And Allah is the Granter of success.
2055 — “The cut of meat most beloved to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was the foreleg of a sheep.”
Al-Ṭayālisī recorded it (288), and from him Abū Dāwūd (3780 and 3781) and Aḥmad (1/397), through Zuhayr, from Abū Isḥāq, from Saʿd ibn ʿIyāḍ, from ʿAbd Allāh, who related it. In one version recorded by Abū Dāwūd: “He was pleased by forelegs.”
I say: Its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for Saʿd ibn ʿIyāḍ. No one other than Abū Isḥāq narrated from him, and no one besides Ibn Ḥibbān declared him trustworthy; he is therefore unknown. Al-Dhahabī alluded to this when he said in al-Mīzān: “Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī alone narrated from him.” Abū Isḥāq practised tadlīs and had become confused in his later years.
