1998 — “A hypocrite has three traits: when he speaks, he lies; when he promises, he breaks his promise; and when entrusted, he betrays the trust.”
Al-Bukhari narrated it in al-Tarikh (4/2/386), as did al-Bazzar (no. 87) and al-Tabarani in al-Awsat (8080), through Yusuf ibn al-Khattab al-Madani, from ‘Ubadah ibn al-Walid ibn ‘Ubadah ibn al-Samit, who said: I heard Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah say—and he related it, attributing it to the Prophet. Al-Bazzar said: “We know of no narration from Jabir except through this route, and Yusuf is unknown.”

Ahmad (2/397) and Muslim (1/56) narrated it, though Muslim did not give its wording in full, through Hammad ibn Salamah, from Dawud ibn Abi Hind, from Sa‘id ibn al-Musayyib, from him. It is also recorded in the two Sahihs and elsewhere with the wording: “The sign of hypocrisy …” and so on.
1999 — “Within my ummah there will be twenty-seven liars and impostors, four of them women. I am the Seal of the Prophets; there will be no prophet after me.”
Al-Tahawi narrated it in Mushkil al-Athar (4/104), as did Ahmad (5/396) and al-Tabarani in
