It is a mursal report with an authentic chain of transmission, and is therefore a strong corroborating report. As for its opening portion, it is authentically reported from Ibn ʿUmar through other routes recorded by al-Nasāʾī, al-Bukhārī, and others. It is cited in al-Rawḍ al-Naḍīr, no. 797, and elsewhere.
1975 — “Only a believer loves the Anṣār, and only a hypocrite hates them. Whoever loves them, Allah loves him; and whoever hates them, Allah hates him.”
It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (4/223), Muslim (1/60), al-Tirmidhī (2/324), who said: “Good and authentic,” al-Ṭayālisī (p. 99, no. 728), and Aḥmad (4/292), on the authority of al-Barāʾ ibn ʿĀzib. It has a corroborating report from the hadith of Anas, attributed to the Prophet, with similar wording. Its wording has preceded under no. 668.
1976 — “If you were always as you are when you are with me, the angels would shelter you with their wings.”
Al-Ṭayālisī recorded it (p. 191, no. 1345): “ʿImrān narrated to us, from Qatādah, from Zayd ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Shikhkhīr, from Ḥanẓalah al-Usaydī,” attributing it to the Prophet. This is a good chain of transmission. All its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of the Six Books, except ʿImrān, who is al-Qaṭṭān. Al-Bukhārī cited him in suspended form, and he is truthful but prone to error, as stated in al-Taqrīb.
Al-Tirmidhī (2/74) and Aḥmad (4/346) also recorded it from al-Ṭayālisī. Al-Tirmidhī said: “This hadith is good through this route. It has also been narrated from Ḥanẓalah through another route, and there are reports on this subject from Abū Hurayrah.”
I say: The other route to which al-Tirmidhī alluded has a fuller wording than this one, and it has already preceded with the wording:
