There are many hadiths concerning the gathering of animals and the redress to be taken among them. I shall mention those I have come across in the following hadith.
1967 — “All creatures will take redress from one another, even the hornless animal from the horned one, and even one tiny ant from another.”
Ahmad related it (2/363): ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; Ḥammād narrated to us, from Wāṣil, from Yaḥyā ibn ʿAqīl, from Abū Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, said it.
I say: This is an authentic chain of transmission. All its narrators are trustworthy and are among Muslim’s narrators. Wāṣil was the client of Abū ʿUyaynah; Ḥammād was Ibn Salamah al-Baṣrī; and ʿAbd al-Ṣamad was Ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith al-Baṣrī.
In Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid (10/352), al-Haythamī said of the hadith, following al-Mundhirī in al-Targhīb (4/201): “Ahmad related it, and its narrators are among those of the authentic collections.”
I say: Its basis is found in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim through al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, with the wording: “Rights will certainly be restored to those entitled to them on the Day of Resurrection, until the hornless sheep is given redress against the horned sheep.” Muslim related it (7/18–19), as did al-Tirmidhī (4/292, with the commentary of al-Tuḥfah) and Ahmad (2/235, 301, and 411), through several routes from him with this wording. Al-Tirmidhī said: “A good, authentic hadith.”
