Likewise, al-Ḍiyāʾ narrated it, nos. 120 and 121 in my edition, through Hammām, who said: Qatādah narrated to us, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Buraydah, from Sulaymān ibn al-Rabīʿ al-ʿAdawī, from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, in a report attributed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Ḥākim said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī concurred with him.
I say: Its narrators are trustworthy and are among the narrators of the Six Books, apart from al-Rabīʿ ibn Sulaymān al-ʿAdawī, whom I could not identify.
Qatādah has another chain of transmission for it, also narrated by al-Ḥākim (4/550), through Muʿādh ibn Hishām, who said: My father narrated to me, from Qatādah, from Abū al-Aswad al-Duʾalī, who said: Zarʿah ibn Ḍamrah al-Ashʿarī and I went to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allah be pleased with him, and we encountered ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr. He said: “Soon, no Arab will remain in the lands of the non-Arabs except one who has been slain or a captive whose life is at their mercy.” Zarʿah asked: “Will the idolaters prevail over Islam?!” He asked, “Which tribe are you from?” He replied, “From Banū ʿĀmir ibn Ṣaʿṣaʿah.” He said: “The Hour will not be established until the women of Banū ʿĀmir throng about Dhu al-Khalaṣah—an idol so named in the pre-Islamic era.”
He said: We then mentioned to ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb what ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr had said. Three times, ʿUmar said: “ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr knows best what he is saying.” Then ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb, may Allah be pleased with him, delivered a sermon on Friday and said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say...” and he cited it with similar wording.
He said: We then informed ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmr of what ʿUmar had said, and he replied: “The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, spoke the truth, if it comes to pass as I said.” Al-Ḥākim said: “It is authentic according to Muslim’s conditions.” Al-Dhahabī wrote in al-Talkhīṣ: “According to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.” This is correct, for all its narrators are among those used by the two Shaykhs.
