“Allah said: ‘O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me…’” It has already appeared under no. 127; thus, the hadith is good on account of corroborating evidence.
Note: In al-Musnad, the name appears as Akhsham, with a mīm. In al-Taʿjīl, it appears as Akhshan, with a nūn, which is correct. Al-Ḥāfiẓ ʿAbd al-Ghanī ibn Saʿīd al-Azdī vocalized it in al-Muʾtalif wa-al-Mukhtalif, p. 5, as: “with khāʾ, shīn, and nūn.” The first half of the hadith also has another corroborating report from Abū Hurayrah with similar wording: “If you were to err…” It has already appeared under no. 903.
1952 — “If the woman who wails does not repent before her death, she will be made to stand on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of tar and a coat of scabies.”
Muslim (3/45) and Aḥmad (5/42, 343, and 344) narrated it through Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr: Zayd related to him that Abū Salām related to him that Abū Mālik al-Ashʿarī related it from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Al-Ḥākim (1/383) also narrated it through this chain with similar wording and said: “Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs.” Al-Dhahabī agreed with him.
This is open to question, however, for al-Bukhārī did not include either Zayd or his grandfather, Abū Salām, in his Ṣaḥīḥ; rather, he included them only in al-Adab al-Mufrad. The hadith has a corroborating report from Abū Hurayrah which has already appeared under no. 735, in the hadith, “Four practices among my ummah…” I noted there that the fourth trait was not mentioned in it, and I wondered whether it had been omitted by the transmitter or by a copyist of al-Majmaʿ. I now consider the former more likely, since it is likewise absent from Kashf al-Astār ʿan Zawāʾid al-Bazzār (800). And Allah knows best.
