Ahmad also transmitted it (1/338): Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated it to us.
I say: This is an authentic chain meeting the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Both of them also transmitted, through other chains from al-Aʿmash, a similar version with the wording: “your mother.” Al-Bukhārī, however, cited it in suspended form, saying: “It is mentioned from Abū Khālid—namely, al-Aḥmar—that al-Aʿmash narrated to us from al-Ḥakam, Muslim al-Baṭīn, and Salamah ibn Kuhayl, from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, ʿAṭāʾ, and Mujāhid, from Ibn ʿAbbās: A woman said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: ‘My sister has died.’” Muslim recorded it with a complete chain (3/156), but did not give its wording. Others did so as well, such as al-Nasāʾī in al-Kubrā (4/42/2), through this route. Al-Tirmidhī said (1/138, Būlāq edition): “Good and authentic.” Both he and al-Nasāʾī gave the wording: “two consecutive months.”
This hadith falls within the purport of the Prophet’s saying: “Whoever dies while fasting is due from him, his next of kin should fast on his behalf.” Reported by al-Bukhārī and Muslim on the authority of ʿĀʾishah. For the term “next of kin” is broad enough to include either a son or a sister. It also applies to a vowed fast, as Ibn al-Qayyim established in one of his works—perhaps Tahdhīb al-Sunan; it may be consulted.
1947 — “He would present himself to the people at the gathering place and say: ‘Is there any man who will take me to his people? For Quraysh have prevented me from conveying the words of my Lord.’”
It was transmitted by al-Bukhārī in Acts of the Servants (p. 77, Hind edition), Abū Dāwūd (4734), al-Tirmidhī (2/152), al-Dārimī (p. 428, Hind edition), Ibn Mājah (201), Ibn Mandah in Oneness of God (113/2), and Ibn ʿAbd al-Hādī in Guidance of Man (2/239/1), through Isrāʾīl, who said: ʿUthmān ibn al-Mughīrah narrated to us from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from Jābir, who said: He then cited it as a report attributed to the Prophet.
