I say: Yaʿqūb has no bearing on this hadith, for he merely corroborates it, as mentioned above. Indeed, al-Ḥākim also transmitted it (4/54) through two other routes from Ibrāhīm. Thus, Yaʿqūb is cleared of responsibility for it, and the defect is confined to Ibrāhīm.
However, al-ʿIrāqī mentioned a supporting narration for it reported by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ. He recorded it under the biographical entry of Muṣʿab ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥamzah ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥamzah ibn Muṣʿab ibn al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām, no. 9327, saying: “Muṣʿab narrated to us: My father narrated to me: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muṣʿab ibn Thābit ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from al-Zubayr, traced back to the Prophet, with the same wording.” The wording of the hadith as reported by him includes: “It is not narrated from al-Zubayr except through this chain of transmission.”
Al-ʿIrāqī said: “This hadith is suitable to be cited for consideration and corroboration, for Ibn Ḥibbān included ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muṣʿab ibn Thābit among the reliable narrators, whereas Ibn Maʿīn declared him weak.”
I say: He is suitable for corroboration, as his statement indicates, for a number of trustworthy narrators transmitted from him. Ibn Abī Ḥātim (2/2/178) reported from his father: “He is a shaykh of the rank of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Zinād.” That is, he is similar to him in his narrations. The established judgement concerning the latter is that his hadith is good; thus, Ibn Muṣʿab is, in his view, comparable to him or close to him. At the very least, he is suitable for strengthening a report and for citing his hadith as corroboration.
All the other narrators are trustworthy, apart from al-Ṭabarānī’s shaykh, Muṣʿab, for I have not found a biographical notice for him, as I mentioned in the documentation of another hadith in al-Muʿjam al-Ṣaghīr (no. 56, al-Rawḍ al-Naḍīr). Yet he has been corroborated, for al-Bayhaqī recorded it in al-Manāqib (1/33) through Ibrāhīm ibn Ḥamzah: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muṣʿab ibn Thābit narrated to us with the same chain.
