Shuʿbah also corroborated him in reporting from Rukayn, though the route to him includes al-Raqāshī, whose retention was weak, as has preceded under “No Disease Has Allah Sent Down” (no. 518).
In sum, the hadith is authentic through these two routes from Rukayn. It also has another route from Ibn Masʿūd, containing the addition: “Take cow’s milk and ghee, but avoid their meat, for their milk and ghee are medicine and a cure, while their meat is an illness.” Al-Ḥākim recorded it (4/404) through Sayf ibn Miskīn: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Masʿūdī narrated to us, from al-Ḥasan ibn Saʿd, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, from his father, attributed to the Prophet with this wording. Al-Ḥākim said: “Its chain of transmission is authentic.” Al-Dhahabī critiqued this in al-Talkhīṣ, saying: “I say: Ibn Ḥibbān declared Sayf weak.” In al-Mīzān, he said: “A shaykh who relates inverted reports and fabricated material; this was stated by Ibn Ḥibbān.”
I say: It has two further defects: al-Masʿūdī’s memory deterioration, and the possibility of a break between ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd and his father. Yaʿqūb ibn Shaybah said: “He is trustworthy, though he narrated little. They criticized his narrations from his father because of his youth.” Ibn Maʿīn said: “He heard from his father,” but on another occasion he said: “He did not hear from him.” Thus it is stated in al-Mīzān. In al-Taqrīb: “Trustworthy, among the younger members of the second generation; he did hear a little from his father.” Thus, the chain of transmission of this addition is weak, though that which corroborates it will be mentioned shortly. Al-Ṭabarānī also recorded it in al-Kabīr (3/27/1) through ʿAbd al-Razzāq, from al-Thawrī
