Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (5459), through the route of Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, who said: “ʿAbd Allah ibn Abī Bakr ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn Ḥazm and Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd ibn Qays al-Anṣārī narrated to me that Saʿd ibn ʿUmārah said it.” It is a Companion-stopped report, though it carries the ruling of being attributed to the Prophet, as is apparent.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission. All its narrators are reliable, notwithstanding the well-known disagreement concerning Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq; moreover, he explicitly stated that he heard it directly. Al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (10/236): “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it, and its narrators are reliable.” Al-Ḥāfiẓ followed him in al-Iṣābah.
Third: From ʿAbd Allah—that is, Ibn Masʿūd—who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, was asked, “What is wealth?” He replied: “Despairing of what people possess.” Al-Ṭabarānī recorded it in al-Awsaṭ (5907), from Ibrāhīm ibn Ziyād al-ʿIjlī, who said: Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us from Zirr, from him. He said: “Ibrāhīm ibn Ziyād was alone in narrating it.”
I say: He is abandoned, as al-Haythamī said (10/286), while all the other narrators are reliable.
Fourth: From Abū Ayyūb al-Anṣārī, attributed to the Prophet, in the wording: “When you stand for prayer, pray as one bidding farewell ...” the hadith. Its documentation has previously appeared under no. 401. Al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it in al-Kabīr (3987 and 3988).
Fifth: From Anas, attributed to the Prophet, containing the final clause of the hadith. Its documentation and the explanation that its chain of transmission is good have previously appeared under no. 354.
