- As for the hadith of Umm Salamah, al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Muʿjam al-Awsat (no. 6222):
Muhammad ibn Bakr ibn Karwan al-Hariri al-Basri narrated to me: Muhammad ibn Yahya al-Hunaini al-Kufi narrated to us; Mundhir ibn Jaʿfar al-Faydi narrated to us, from ʿAbdullah ibn al-Walid al-Wassafi, from Muhammad ibn ʿAli, from her, attributing it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with the wording: “Acts of kindness protect against evil deaths; giving charity secretly extinguishes the wrath of the Lord; maintaining ties of kinship increases one’s lifespan; and every good deed is charity. Those devoted to good in this world will be devoted to good in the Hereafter, and those devoted to evil in this world will be devoted to evil in the Hereafter. The first to enter Paradise will be those devoted to good.”
He said: “It is not narrated from Umm Salamah except through this chain of transmission; al-Wassafi alone narrated it.”
I say: It is weak, as al-Haythami said (3/115), and I do not know those below him in the chain.
- As for the hadith of Abu Umamah, Hafs ibn Sulayman narrated it from Yazid ibn ʿAbd al-Rahman, from his father, from him, attributing it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with wording like the previously cited hadith of ʿUmar (4), except for the phrase: “and expands one’s provision . . .”
It was recorded by Luʾluʾ in al-Fawaʾid al-Muntaqah (2/215/1) and by al-Tabarani in al-Kabir (8014).
I say: This is a very weak chain of transmission. Hafs ibn Sulayman was al-Asadi, Abu ʿAmr al-Bazzar, the Qur’an reciter and companion of ʿAsim. Al-Hafiz said: “His hadith is abandoned, despite his mastery in Qur’an recitation.”
I then saw that al-Haythami mentioned the hadith in al-Majmaʿ (3/115) and said: “It was narrated by al-Tabarani in al-Kabir, and its chain of transmission is good.” This is among his errors, may Allah have mercy on him.
