Muslim recorded it.
Both reports decisively refute one who has introduced the claim that the Prophet’s wives—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—were infallible, citing in support such words of Allah Most High concerning them:
“Allah only intends to keep all impurity away from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you completely.”
Whether out of ignorance or feigned ignorance, he overlooks that the will in this verse is not the cosmic will, which entails the occurrence of what is willed; rather, it is the legislative will, entailing love and approval. Otherwise, the verse would be proof for the Shiites in their argument from it for the infallibility of the Imams of the Prophet’s Household, foremost among them ʿAlī—may Allah be pleased with him. This is what that innovator has overlooked, despite claiming to be a Salafī!
For this reason, Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah said in his refutation of the Rāfiḍī Shiite (2/117):
“As for the Verse of Purification, it does not report the purity of the People of the Household or the removal of impurity from them. Rather, it commands them to do that which entails their purification and the removal of impurity from them. ... One indication that this is something they were commanded to do, rather than something whose occurrence was reported, is what is established in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim: the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—wrapped a cloak around Fāṭimah, ʿAlī, Ḥasan, and Ḥusayn, then said: ‘O Allah, these are the members of my Household, so remove impurity from them and purify them completely.’ Muslim recorded it. This proves that he was not reporting that this had occurred; for had it occurred, he would have praised Allah for its occurrence and thanked Him for it, rather than restricting himself to mere supplication.”
1905 — “Use the black seed—shūnīz (black cumin)—for it contains a cure.”
Aḥmad recorded it (5/354): Zayd narrated to us; Ḥusayn narrated to me; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to me, saying: “I heard my father, Buraydah, say: I heard the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say,” and he mentioned it.
I say: This is a good chain of transmission, meeting Muslim’s criteria. Ḥusayn is Ibn Wāqid, and Zayd is Ibn al-Ḥubāb. Wāṣil ibn Ḥibbān al-ʿIjlī corroborated him, saying: “ʿAbd Allāh ibn Buraydah narrated to me the same report,” except that he said:
