And concerning the son, he said: “Truthful, but prone to error.”
I say: However, both of them were corroborated, as in the first chain of transmission. Al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (no. 10392) through this route, and it has a good chain of transmission. Its narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of Muslim, apart from al-Faḍl ibn Sahl—who is al-Faḍl ibn Ibrāhīm al-Aʿraj al-Baghdādī—whom al-Ḥāfiẓ described as “truthful.” There is some criticism concerning Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar al-Madāʾinī, but it does not reduce his hadith below the rank of good, if Allah Most High wills.
Ayyūb ibn Jābir also corroborated it from al-Aʿmash. Al-Ṭabarānī transmitted it (no. 10391): Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us; Sufyān ibn Bishr informed us; Ayyūb ibn Jābir informed us, from al-Aʿmash, with it. This Ayyūb is weak. It was also corroborated in al-Ṭabarānī’s collection by ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Saʿīd, al-Aʿmash’s guide, from al-Aʿmash, with it. This guide is also weak. Its first part has another corroborating report and a supporting report, whose sources were previously given (184).
1895 — “Among you are people who devote themselves to worship until they impress others and become impressed with themselves; they pass out of the religion as an arrow passes through its quarry.”
Abū Yaʿlā transmitted it (3/1007): Wahb ibn Baqiyyah narrated to us; Khālid informed us, from Sulaymān al-Taymī, from Anas, who said: We were told that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said it.
