a good hadith when all these reports are taken together, especially since part of it is supported by a corroborating report narrated by al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad (no. 1308), through al-Barāʾ ibn Yazīd, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaqīq, from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet: “The worst of my community are those who talk excessively, affect grandiloquence in their speech, and are pompous; and the best of my community are those of finest character.” Its chain of transmission consists entirely of trustworthy narrators who appear in al-Bukhārī’s Ṣaḥīḥ, apart from al-Barāʾ—namely, al-Barāʾ ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Baṣrī—whom al-Ḥāfiẓ described in al-Taqrīb as “weak.”
It also has another route recorded by al-Bazzār (p. 324, Zawāʾid Ibn Ḥajar), through ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ziyād, from ʿUmārah ibn Rāshid, from Abū Hurayrah, attributed to the Prophet: “Among the worst of my community are those reared in luxury, upon which their bodies have grown.” Al-Mundhirī said in al-Targhīb (3/125): “Its narrators are trustworthy, except for ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ziyād ibn Anʿum.”
I say: He is al-Ifrīqī, and the scholars declared him weak, as al-Dhahabī stated in al-Kāshif. As for al-Haythamī’s statement (10/250), “He has been declared trustworthy, and the majority hold him to be trustworthy; and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy,” it is questionable.
I say: Thus, a report such as his may be used as corroboration. And Allah knows best.

Al-Muḥāmilī narrated it in al-Amālī (folio 36/2): al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz related to me
