“Abū Nuʿaym narrated it from ʿĀʾishah with an unobjectionable chain of transmission.”
I say: Let its chain of transmission be examined, for al-Munāwī claimed that al-Mīzān states: “This is narrated by Aṣram ibn Ḥawshab, who is not trustworthy, from Isḥāq ibn Wāṣil, who is utterly discredited and whose hadith is abandoned.”
I say: I fear that al-Munāwī confused the preceding hadith of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar with this hadith of ʿĀʾishah. For I consider it highly unlikely that this chain should contain these two abandoned narrators, while al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī says of its chain: “There is no objection to it.” I then had this suspicion confirmed when I saw that al-Dhahabī mentioned this in Isḥāq’s biographical notice without naming the Companion who narrated the hadith. Al-Ḥāfiẓ stated in al-Lisān that he was ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar, and that al-Ḥākim narrated it ... Thus it became clear that al-Munāwī had placed al-Dhahabī’s remarks in the wrong context, and that it is not valid to impugn ʿĀʾishah’s hadith on that basis.
The hadith has also been narrated with the wording: “There will be men from my community who eat various kinds of food, drink various kinds of beverages, wear various kinds of clothing, and speak in an affected manner. They are the worst of my community.”
I say: Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr (The Great Lexicon) (no. 7512), and Tammām in al-Fawāʾid (Benefits) (264–265), through Jamīʿ ibn Thawb al-Raḥabī, from Ḥabīb ibn ʿUbayd, from Abū Umāmah, attributed to the Prophet.
I say: This is a very weak chain of transmission. Regarding this Jamīʿ, al-Bukhārī said: “His hadith is rejected.” Al-Nasāʾī said: “His hadith is abandoned.” However, Abū Bakr ibn Abī Maryam followed him in narrating it from Ḥabīb ibn ʿUbayd. Al-Ṭabarānī also narrated it in al-Kabīr (7513) and al-Awsaṭ (2536).
Abū Bakr ibn Abī Maryam is weak because his memory became impaired; so, when this is joined to the first two mursal reports, it becomes
