“They stipulated to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that they would be under no obligation to give charity or wage jihad.” Through this same chain, Abū al-Zubayr said: Jābir also informed me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this. He then cited the hadith.
This is a strong chain. Although it includes Ibn Lahīʿah, he was himself trustworthy, and his poor retention is no concern here, since the hadith has come through another route. Abū Dāwūd also narrated it (2/42), saying: Al-Ḥasan ibn al-Ṣabbāḥ narrated to us; Ismāʿīl—that is, Ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm—narrated to us; Ibrāhīm—that is, Ibn ʿAqīl ibn Munabbih—narrated to me from his father, from Wahb, who said: I asked Jābir ... The hadith is similar, except that he combined the two reports into one hadith, which is the apparent understanding. In the latter, he said: “And that he heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, afterward say: ‘They will give charity ...’” and then cited the hadith. This is an authentic chain; all its narrators are trustworthy.
1889 — “The two prostrations of forgetfulness suffice in the prayer for every addition and omission.”
Abū Yaʿlā narrated it in his Musnad (218/1): Abū Maʿmar Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; Ḥakīm ibn Nāfiʿ narrated to us, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from ʿĀʾishah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said this.
I say: This is a chain whose narrators are trustworthy and are narrators of the two Shaykhs, apart from Ḥakīm ibn Nāfiʿ, who apparently is al-Raqqī. Al-Dhahabī said: “He narrated from the younger generation of the Followers. Abū Zurʿah said: ‘He is unreliable.’ Ibn Maʿīn said: ‘There is nothing wrong with him.’ Ibn ʿAdī said: ‘He is among those whose hadith may be recorded ...’”
Abū Yaʿlā then narrated it (223/1) through Ḥafṣ ibn Bishr al-Asadī, who said: Ḥakīm ibn Nāfiʿ narrated it to me with the same chain. I then found it in the Musnad of al-Bazzār (no. 574), through Muḥammad ibn Bakkār, who narrated to us from Ḥakīm ibn Nāfiʿ with the same chain. Al-Haythamī said in al-Majmaʿ (2/151):
