Al-Hafiz said in al-Taqrib: “Truthful, but prone to error.” Al-Targhib also cites this hadith (3/285) and says: “Al-Bazzar narrated it with a sound chain of transmission.” Al-Haythami said (8/73): “Al-Bazzar narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy.”
I say: The wording in both works, as I quoted from Ibn Hajar’s Supplement to al-Bazzar, is “a habitual insulter.” However, al-Suyuti also cited it from al-Bazzar in both of his Jamiʿ compilations with the wording, “one who insults.” He also cited it with this wording in al-Saghir, but said “the dead” in place of “the believer.” He said: “Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir from Ibn ʿAmr.” Allah knows best the state of its chain of transmission, for al-Haythami did not include it in his Majmaʿ, and it was attributed only to al-Bazzar with the first wording.
1879 — “I asked Allah, the Exalted, for intercession for my ummah. He said to me: ‘You shall have seventy thousand who will enter Paradise without reckoning.’ I said: ‘My Lord, grant me more.’ He said: ‘Then you shall have this much,’ and He made a sweeping gesture before Him, to His right and to His left.”
Al-Baghawi narrated it in Hadith ʿAli ibn al-Jaʿd (12/166/2): Asim narrated to us; Ibn Abi Dhiʾb narrated to us, from al-Maqburi, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, who attributed it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
I say: This is a sound chain of transmission according to al-Bukhari’s criteria. Asim is Asim ibn Ali ibn Asim al-Wasiti. There is some criticism concerning him, but it does not affect the report. Al-Hafiz said:
