“That is, when they are steeped together.” He said: “Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim.” Al-Dhahabi concurred.
1876 — “Be at ease, for I am not a king; I am only the son of a woman from Quraysh who used to eat dried meat.”
Ibn Saʿd related it in al-Ṭabaqāt (1/23): Yazid ibn Harun and ʿAbd Allah ibn Numayr informed us; they said: Ismaʿil ibn Abi Khalid informed us, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, that a man came to the Messenger of Allah, and stood before him, whereupon he was seized by trembling. The Messenger of Allah said: “...”
I say: This is an authentic mursal chain of transmission. Jaʿfar ibn ʿAwn narrated it with a connected chain: Ismaʿil ibn Abi Khalid narrated to us, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, from Abu Masʿud, who said: He then mentioned it. Ibn Majah (3312), Muhammad ibn Makhlad al-ʿAttar in al-Muntaqa min Hadithihi (2/15/2), and al-Hakim (3/47–48) related it through Ismaʿil ibn Asad, from him. Al-Hakim said: “Authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim.” Al-Dhahabi concurred.
I say: Ismaʿil ibn Asad was not narrated from by al-Bukhari or Muslim, though he is trustworthy. However, the mursal report is more authentic.
ʿAbbad ibn al-ʿAwwam differed from them, narrating: from Ismaʿil ibn Abi Khalid, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, from Jarir ibn ʿAbd Allah, who said: He then mentioned it. He added at its end: “in this valley.” Jarir ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Bajali then recited: “You are not a tyrant over them; so remind, by means of the Quran, whoever fears My warning.”
