(195, 202) — al-Tirmidhī (2/314) also narrated it through several routes from Shuʿbah, and he declared: “A ḥadīth that is good and authentic.” Neither he nor al-Bukhārī expressly state that Qatādah heard it directly from Anas, which is why I have produced the following supporting chain.
Another chain
Aḥmad said (3/248): “ʿAffān narrated to us; Ḥammād narrated to us; Thābit related to us from Anas ibn Mālik:
‘The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Umm Ḥarām, and we brought him dates and clarified butter. He said, “Put this back in its container and that back in its skin-bottle, for I am fasting.”’ ”
141 – From Anas ibn Mālik:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Umm Ḥarām, and we presented him with dates and clarified butter, whereupon he said:
“Put this back in its container and that back in its skin-bottle, for I am fasting.”
(Anas ibn Mālik continued):
He then rose and led us in two units (rakʿahs) of voluntary prayer. He positioned Umm Ḥarām and Umm Sulaym behind us and placed me at his right side—as Thābit related. He led us in this supererogatory prayer on a mat. When he finished, Umm Sulaym said, “I have a personal request: Your little servant Anas—pray to Allah for him.” On that day he omitted nothing of the good of this world or the next without invoking it for me; then he said:
“O Allah, increase his wealth and his children, and bless him in whatever You give him.”
Anas said, “My daughter has informed me that I have been granted from my own loins close to ninety descendants, and by morning no man among the Anṣār is wealthier than I. Yet, O Thābit, I possess neither gold nor silver—nothing but this ring of mine!”
I say: This chain is authentic according to Muslim’s criteria. Abū Dāwūd (608) also recorded it—Mūsā ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us, Ḥammād narrated to us—omitting the words, “When he finished his prayer…”. It was likewise collected by Aḥmad (3/193–194), Muslim (2/128), and Abū ʿAwānah (2/…).
