However, the hadith has a strong corroborating report from the hadith of Abū Umāmah, attributed to the Prophet, which al-Tirmidhī authenticated. See Takhrīj al-Targhīb (1/60). Al-Bazzār also recorded the hadith in his Musnad (no. 133 in Kashf al-Astār) through Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, attributed to the Prophet, with the wording: “Everything—even the fish in the sea—seeks forgiveness for the teacher of goodness.” However, concerning this Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Malik, al-Haythamī said (1/124): “He is a liar.”
1853 — “Intoxicants are the source of all indecencies and the gravest of major sins. Whoever drinks them will commit sexual intercourse with his mother, his maternal aunt, and his paternal aunt.”
Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it (nos. 11372 and 11498) through Rushdayn ibn Saʿd, from Abū Ṣakhr, from ʿAbd al-Karīm Abū Umayyah, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ, from Ibn ʿAbbās, attributed to the Prophet. He also narrated it in al-Awsaṭ (3285) through Ibn Lahīʿah, from ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Abī Umayyah, with the same wording.
I say: This is a weak chain of transmission. ʿAbd al-Karīm Abū Umayyah, Rushdayn ibn Saʿd, and Ibn Lahīʿah are all weak. Al-Haythamī, however, identified only the first of them as the defect, saying (5/67): “Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in al-Awsaṭ and al-Kabīr, and its chain includes ʿAbd al-Karīm Abū Umayyah, who is weak.”
Al-Haythamī then mentioned a corroborating report for it (5/68), from the hadith of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, attributed to the Prophet, with the addition: “He abandons the prayer and commits …,” and said:
