Al-Khaṭīb also narrated it in al-Talkhīṣ (86/1) through this route. Ṣāliḥ’s hadith is rejected, as al-Bukhārī said.
I then found that Muḥammad ibn Abī Ḥumayd al-Anṣārī—mentioned earlier in the hadith of Jābir—narrated the hadith from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, attributed to the Prophet, in a more complete form. Its wording is:
“The pilgrims performing Hajj and those performing ʿumrah are Allah’s delegation. If they ask Him, He gives them; if they call upon Him, He answers them; and if they spend, He replaces it for them. By Him in Whose Hand is the soul of Abū al-Qāsim, no one proclaims Allah’s greatness upon a rise, nor does anyone raise the talbiyah on any lofty eminence, without all that lies before him joining in the talbiyah and takbīr, until the farthest limit of the earth is reached.”
Abū al-Shaykh al-Iṣbahānī narrated it in Aḥādīth Bakr ibn Bakkār (3/2), through him: “Muḥammad ibn Abī Ḥumayd al-Anṣārī reported to us; ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb reported to us, from his father, from his grandfather, attributed to the Prophet.” Tamām narrated it in al-Fawāʾid (252/2), as did the noble judge Abū al-Ḥusayn in al-Mashyakha (2/180/1), through Ibn Wahb, from Muḥammad ibn Abī Ḥumayd, from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, through the same chain.
Al-Khulʿī narrated the first half of it in al-Fawāʾid (108/2), and Ibn ʿAdī (301/1) narrated both halves, saying: “Muḥammad ibn Abī Ḥumayd al-Zuhrī is virtually unknown.” That is what he said, though he is known to be weak, as mentioned above. Ibn Abī Ḥātim said in al-ʿIlal (2/298): “My father said: ‘This is a rejected hadith.’” He meant this fuller version.
1821 — “Fever is the believer’s share of the Fire on the Day of Resurrection.”
Ibn Abī al-Dunyā narrated it in al-Maraḍ wa-al-Kaffārāt (181/1–2), as did Ibn ʿAsākir (6/399/2), from al-Faḍl ibn Ḥammād al-Azdī, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿImrān, from Mālik ibn Dīnār, from Maʿbad al-Juhanī, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān, attributed to the Prophet.
